Our trip to Europe
Now, we are still in Japan.
We will be leaving for Italy on June 24.
We expect to reach Venice at 19:00 on June 24 via Frankfurt, and arrive at
Trieste, where we
will be staying for 1 month, at 22LT.
June 23, 1999, RASC, Japan
Hello! We have arrived in Italy. It was such a long trip of 25 hours.
We got up at 4:30 June 24 in our Uji house, and arrived at Osaka airport
at 7:40. Three of us are the last who are on abroad the air plane !!
People are waiting for us anxiously. The flight departured at 9:40.
After a more than 12-hour trip we arrived in Frankfurt at 14:40 (Germany
time).
Then we take a flight to Venice, Italy at about 06:00, which was delayed
by 1 hour.
The trip to Venice costs 1 hour.
From Venice to Trieste, it takes 1.5 hours by train. We took a taxi to the
Adriatico Palace, where we will stay. At the time we went into our room,
it was 11pm,
or 6am in Japan. Shansi said that her friend in Japan may have got up,
but we still have yet gone to bad. We are really tired due to the
time-difference.
June 25 1999, ICTP, Italy
In these two days (weekend), we looked around the Trieste downtown, the
beautiful beach sights, and the Miramara Park.
June 27 1999, ICTP, Italy
Now I stared to work here at ICTP. We are having the 1999 IRI Taskforce
Activity in this week. About 10 people from US, Italy, Austria, Rusia,
Spane, Argentine, Czech and China are present at this event. We are
working on improving the International Reference Ionosphere.
June 29 1999, ICTP, Italy
We moved from the Adriatico Guest House, which is exact on beach of the Adriatico
Ocean, to a private accommodation at Via Guilia 39 in downtown Trieste. We share
this big apartment with other Chinese friends.
June 30 1999
I gave a presentation today, entitled "IRI-related studies on the base of the MU
radar IS observations" (Zhang, Otsuka, Fukao). Tonight, we will have a party to be
attened by our participants, and their families, of the 1999 IRI Taskforce Activity.
July 1 1999, ICTP, Italy
Our IRI Taskforce Activity was finished last Friday. On Saturday, we went
to visit Venice by touring bus which was particularly reserved by ICTP.
It took about 2 hour to get Venice. We left Trieste at 7:30am, and came
back at 9:30pm. In Venice, there is no bus service -- yes, they have
"bus", but that kind of public transportation tool is boat. Taxi is also
using boat. We went to Piaza S. Marco by this "bus" which costs Lit 6,000
for a single way, and came back on foot which costed 2 hours but allowed
us looking around this nice city.

At 21:40, July 10, we left for Rome for a trip in Italy by train.
7:30am, arrived in Rome.
12:30pm, July 11, went to Pompei via Napoli:
15:50pm, arrived in Napoli.
16:40-17:00, from Napoli to Pompei by train.
21:30, back to Napoli.
22:30, left for Pisa.
4:00am, arrived in Pisa.
11:00-12:00am, to Firoence by train
19:00pm, left for Trieste.
23:45pm, arrived in Trieste.
5:30am, July 17, left Trieste for Venice by train
